A star-studded gathering at ‘Ungal Naan’, Kamal Haasan’s celebration of 60 years in cinema with a concert by Ilaiyaraaja, led to some heartfelt tributes and some surprising revelations at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Sunday evening.
The film fraternity came together at Ungal Naan to honour Kamal Haasan as he completed 60 years in the Tamil film industry. The event saw Rajinikanth, AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja and Mani Ratnam among others in attendance.
From comedic roles to intense drama entertainers, Haasan’s versatility has secured him a permanent place in the world of cinema, having had towering performances in the south and also in Bollywood.
Maestro Ilaiyaraaja kick-started the musical evening with his usual inaugural song Janani Janani. Music composer AR Rahman honoured Kamal Haasan and Ilaiyaraaja as he arrived at the event. However, it was Rajinikanth and Vijay Sethupathi who stole the show.
